Different whitening products and treatments might use different whitening agents in varying concentrations. This can sometimes make it frustrating to find the right method to effectively restore your white and winning smile. In most cases the most effective way to whiten stained tooth enamel is to have Dr. J. Scott Thompson, DMD administer a dental bleaching treatment.

Once your white and lustrous smile has been fully restored, you can maintain your smile by occasionally using whitening strips to remove surface stains. You simply apply them to your teeth and they will whiten minor stains without being noticeable to the casual observer. While the strips are in your mouth, you should avoid eating, drinking, chewing gum and using tobacco products.

Whitening strips are essentially a clear sheet of plastic that has been treated with special topical hydrogen peroxide. It’s important to keep in mind that the concentration of topical hydrogen peroxide on whitening strips, is only potent enough to affect minor surface stains.

If more significant stains develop again on your teeth, you should seek Dr. J. Scott Thompson, DMD’s advice. If the new stains on your teeth have penetrated deep into the enamel, they might need to administer another dental bleaching treatment.

If you have questions about how to maintain your white smile, you should call Dr. J. Scott Thompson, DMD’s office in Essex Junction, Vermont at 802-879-7811 to set up a consultation.
